Dansville Fish and Game Pheasant Folks
We, at the Dansville Fish and Game Protective Club, on Gibson St., Dansville, NY, are once again taking on the task of raising Ringneck Pheasant for release into the wild. At the club there are facilities that will allow for the rearing of up to 450 adult Ringneck pheasant over the course of a 12–15-week period. We will be attempting to raise approximately 350 birds to full adulthood starting late spring of 2022.

We will begin the process with day old chicks in late May or Early June.

These day-old birds will need almost constant care for the first several weeks of their life. Feeders will need to be filled with high quality chick starter feed several times daily. Waterers will need to be sanitized and refilled several times daily, and bedding maintenance will need to be addressed several times every day through the first few weeks of their life. As a club we have several members who have volunteered their time to accomplish this goal.
All day-old poultry need to be brooded. This is a process that in the wild, is accomplished by the mother hen. She sees to all the baby bird’s needs, keeping them warm and dry, finding food and water, keeping them safe from predators, etc.. When these birds are raised in confinement the care givers need to take over this task. The main goal is to keep the baby birds warm and dry. This is accomplished with either heat lamps or special warming “brooder plates”.
Feeders and waters need to be kept clean and in good working order to keep the young birds healthy.
High quality feed, meant for raising young pheasants is needed to ensure heathly adult birds and reduce losses.

The estimated feed needed to raise and keep these birds until fall is between 5,000 and 5,600 pounds. At $21.50 for a 40# bag, that adds up to 140 bags totaling $3010.00. Adding in the cost of replacing and maintaining other needed equipment and facilities, the cost could be as much as $4000.00.
Please help us reach our goal of $4000.00 and donate today.
